Menu Residential Spaces Scott A. Stultz

Washington, D.C.

On the tenth floor of a condominium building, with views of the National Cathedral from its wide balcony, this apartment was completely gutted and remodeled, with the kitchen mostly open to living room and dining area. The task here was to work within the architect’s general layout and design language, incorporating already specified appliances into a space that had to serve everyday cooking and dining, generous storage, and elegant entertaining needs. The dark taupe and soft gray cabinets delineate the working kitchen, while European steamed beech delineates the dining and entertainment areas. With sink and walk in pantry tucked behind the floor to ceiling cabinetry that faces the living room, the peninsula and custom dining table create a distinct yet sociable boundary in this warm and inviting modern home.

We love our kitchen. We knew it would be beautiful, but we had no idea how much fun nor how easy it would be to use. In my childhood house, the kitchen was the heart of our home. You achieved that for us, and we are so grateful. Moving in, we knew immediately where everything goes. It’s so intuitive. We especially love the table you designed for us! The finishes and proportions enhance our great room. It’s an anchor and a magnet so people naturally gather there. Your attention to detail, your disciplined process, your delivering on-time and on budget is so appreciated. A Stultz kitchen is like a pair of bespoke shoes. Brand new, they fit like you’ve worn them for years and years.
